The floor coverings which are made from natural material are known as natural carpets. Natural carpets are un-dyed, unprocessed, and made from raw products such as wool, seagrass, jute, coir and sisal.
Natural Fiber Carpets
One of the most common natural carpets is the wool and it is the only type of natural fiber which is used in broadloom i.e. wall-to-wall carpet. And the fibers which are used into making area rugs are the natural fibers such as sisal, cotton, seagrass, jute, silk, and coir.
Eco-Friendly Natural Carpets
Practically, there are varieties of eco-friendly carpets which are available ranging from area rugs and wall-to-wall installations to customizable carpet tiles. Natural, renewable fiber carpets or natural carpets are the most environments friendly one and include the following categories of natural carpets such as sisal, seagrass, coir, organic cotton, jute, organic wool and bamboo.
Natural fiber carpets or the natural carpets are more environments friendly. Compared to the synthetics they are the best because they are made from sustainable resources. In addition, synthetic fibers will release volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which are gasses emitted from the fibers. But the natural carpets will not release VOCs; however, if the fibers are attached to a synthetic backing, then it is still possible for VOCs to occur.
Stain Resistance Natural Carpets
Natural fiber carpets such as jute, sisal, seagrass rugs etc., are stain resistant carpets. Means even if the stain is there or something gets spilled it’s easy to remove. Plus, regular vacuuming with string suction vacuum is bound to remove the hard dust and dirt in it. So, is the case of the wool carpets, many people think that once a stain gets on it and also the dirt, it’s difficult to remove? But it is a wrong concept. It can be removed with a brush and vinegar and also alcohol and detergent. There are many ways to remove the stains. Like steam cleaning etc.
Long Lasting Natural Carpets
Natural carpets are longer lasting than the synthetic carpets. The only thing is that their durability depends on their placements. Such as low traffic areas, high traffic area where there is a lot of foot movement etc. So, you have to place the carpets accordingly or in accordance with the movements. For example, if you place a seagrass rug in bedroom, it is likely to last for longer years as there is less foot movement in this area. Similarly, a jute natural carpet is good to be placed in the high traffic areas such as entrance or living room, since jute is made from rigid reed. So, it can sustain high foot movements.
Price
If you compare the rates in the market and also search on the web, you will know that the natural carpets are more expensive than their counterparts i.e. the synthetic carpets. Plus, the maintenance of the natural carpets is also not easy it is also costly. Some of the natural carpets are less expensive like seagrass rugs and sisal rugs etc. And their maintenance is easy, but if you want to spend in keeping it up to the mark just like new one then it’s expensive.
