Outdoor rigging and attire retailer REI affirmed Wednesday it is moving its Goose Island neighborhood store to another waterfront spot right on time one year from now.
Kent, Wash.- based REI recently marked a 15-year rent on the space that is inside a stretch of the Chicago River’s North Branch Canal named the “wild mile,” about a quarter mile from its ebb and flow Goose Island store.
The new area will be one of the organization’s “most energizing retail spaces” and will enable REI “to all the more likely associate individuals in Chicago to an existence outside,” store chief Mike Daurio said in a news discharge Wednesday.

At 40,000 square feet, the new store will be around 10,000 square feet bigger than its present area, which opened in 2008, REI said. It will have open air yard seating and bicycle stopping, alongside a bicycle, ski and snowboard shop.
